The 2021 Nissan Leaf has landed on Philippine shores, the first full electric vehicle from a mainstream Japanese brand. Toyota and Mitsubishi has hybrid cars here already, like the Toyota Prius and the Corolla Cross hybrid, while Mitsubishi PHEV is also here. The Nissan leaf, however, is the first full electric from Nissan, which is meant to take on the more affordable Chery Arrizo 5 EV. In this Filipino car review, we take a full tour of the Nissan Leaf and see if it can justify its steep asking price. The Leaf is priced at P2,790,000, plus P123,000 for the optional wall box charger. The Philippine government does not give subsidies for electric vehicles, hence the high asking price. The Nissan leaf is as big as a Ford Focus, or even a Toyota Prius, making it more of a compact hatchback like the Corolla or the Civic. It has class leading space, and zero emissions. However, the price means that it will take forever to recover the entry price, versus a similar sized gasoline car, like the Toyota Vios or the Honda City. The Leaf is not meant to save fuel here, but more of an environmentally friendlier option versus gasoline cars.
