The Halfords Birmingham Superprix took place between 1986 and 1990 and the even was mostly focused on the Formula 3000 class, which at the time was seen as the last career stepping stone up to Formula One. The street circuit was laid out on closed public roads near to Birmingham's city centre and the meeting was took place over two days during the August Bank Holiday.

The fifth and final Birmingham Superprix meeting took place in 1990 and it was Eric van de Poele who took the race win, after polesitter Apicella retired

The F3000 race was won by Eric van de Poele, after polesitter Marco Apicella retired from the race, adding to a substantial list of non-finishers, as only 11 of the 30 entrants made it to the chequered flag.
