What is the path of devotion? Just like there are different stages on the path of meditation, similarly there must be a path of devotion. And if there is a path of devotion then what are the stages of on the path of devotion (bhakti). Interestingly, the book on The Ancient Science of Mantras has a detailed answer to this question because without devotion you cannot accomplish a mantra. Every mantra has a deity. If there is no devotion and faith in the heart then you cannot accomplish anything from that deity. The mantra sadhana is not a meditation. It is not that you concentrate on some word and you have achieved the mantra.

If you want, you can make the path for anything. A framework can be given to anything. But, when it comes to devotion, it is either there or it is not there. You cannot have devotion by force. Some people have it in their heart and some don’t. Some get it later and some try hard. If you think a lot intellectually, it is hard to be devoted. A very intellect person will always be questioning the devotion. Devotion is in the heart. It just is.
