Nanjing is a very large city in China. It is also a famous historical and cultural city. It is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese civilization and the center of world classical civilization. The China Qinhuai Lantern Festival is a folk cultural activity popular in the ancient capital of Nanjing. It is also known as the Jinling Lantern Festival and the Confucius Temple Lantern Festival. It is a national intangible cultural heritage. It has the reputation of "the best lantern festival in the world" and "the most colorful Qinhuai lantern festival in the world". It is the only one in China. It is a large-scale comprehensive lantern festival that integrates lantern exhibitions, lantern fairs and lantern markets. It is also the folk lantern festival with the longest duration, the largest number of participants and the largest scale in China.
The history of the Qinhuai Lantern Festival can be traced back to the Southern Dynasties. The custom of holding the traditional Lantern Festival appeared in Jiankang (now Nanjing), the capital of the country. Its grand event was the highest in the country and it was the earliest lantern festival in China. It developed rapidly in the Tang Dynasty and reached its peak in the Ming Dynasty. Nanjing was the ancient capital of six dynasties and the city of ten dynasties. As an important folk activity, the Qinhuai Lantern Festival has always been a social and cultural event for people of all ages to bid farewell to the old and welcome the new, pray for good luck, and be festive and lively. Qinhuai culture is the representative of the ancient Jinling civilization, and the Qinhuai Lantern Festival is an important carrier of inheriting the excellent traditional culture of Qinhuai.

中国秦淮灯会是流行于古都南京的民俗文化活动，又称金陵灯会、夫子庙灯会，是国家级非物质文化遗产，有“天下第一灯会”和“秦淮灯彩甲天下”的美誉，是中国唯一一个集灯展、灯会和灯市为一体的大型综合型灯会，也是中国持续时间最长、参与人数最多、规模最大的民俗灯会。
秦淮灯会的历史最早可以追溯到南朝时期，国都建康（今南京）就出现了举办传统元宵灯会的习俗，其盛况为全国之冠，是中国最早的灯会。唐代时得到了迅速发展，明代时达到了鼎盛。南京是六朝古都、十朝都会，秦淮灯会作为一项重要的民俗活动，一直是历代民众辞旧迎新、祈求吉祥、喜庆热闹的社会文化盛会。秦淮文化是古老的金陵文明代表，秦淮灯会则是传承秦淮优秀传统文化的重要载体。

南京~中国的特大型城市，也是历史文化名城，中华文明的重要发祥地之一，世界古典文明的中心，在明代时期曾是世界上最大的城市，自古以来长期是中国南方的政治、经济、文化中心。南京是中国古代最著名的六朝古都，也曾经是中华民国的首都，有超过七千年的文明史，三千年的建城史，五百多年的建都史。
