In this episode, football legend Lucy talks about the continuing gender inequality in football, especially in terms of research into women’s bodies and how periods can affect sporting performance. Her comments come after she was sidelined in the run up to this summer’s World Cup with a knee injury like many key England players including Leah Williamson and Beth Mead.Currently female players are still suffering knee ligament injuries in worrying numbers and women appear to be four to six times more likely to suffer an ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] injury than male footballers and there is still little being done about this and how it’s linked to periods.

Lucy also talks about how she hopes changing the shorts in the England kit from white to blue will normalise talking about periods and take the shame out of periods in sport, and discusses the sexism she has faced in sport throughout her life. Lucy also opens up about her mental health, the pride she feels for the Lionesses being able to change things in society for women and they have broken down walls to be in spaces where they weren’t previously ‘meant to be in.’ And aren't we so pleased they are shattering the glass ceiling in sport for everyone?
