Weekly Economic Outlook: G7, G20, OECD - a lot a Green wish-fulfilment, and more monetary and fiscal stimulus than we need. Andrew Hilton's thoughts on the last couple of weeks.

Why you should watch: The last couple of weeks have seen climate-related issues move right to the top of the global agenda - without much (if any) democratic debate and without much understanding of the social and economic costs that will be entailed. Plus, there is the serious political problem that, unless China and the EMs are on board, all of this may be for nothing. More immediately, the global economy is still recovering, markets are still in vertiginous territory - but the US Administration is still reluctant to slam on the brakes. As for last weekend's G7 FinMin meeting, there is still a bit further to go on a new tax regime than press reports might suggest. As for this week's Summit, China, ransomware and the vaccine problem facing the poorest countries are likely to be high on the agenda.

In his Weekly Economic Outlook, Andrew Hilton, the CSFI’s Director, discusses the current crisis, its impact on the global economy, and what we may be missing.

Andrew is a former World Bank economist, who also ran a small economic consultancy advising international clients, particularly in the Middle East. He has an MA from New College, Oxford, an MBA from Wharton, and an MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Thouron Scholar and Kent Fellow.
