The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has detected a Chinese-flagged research vessel off the waters of Viga, Catanduanes, which is located at the opposite side of the West Philippine Sea.

In a statement, the AFP said there were attempts to contact the vessel through regular radio channels but the personnel of the Chinese-flagged research vessel Shen Kuo, did not respond.

The lack of response during the contact attempts, the military said, was an indication of either lack of responsiveness or unwillingness to communicate.
