Rare's Vice President of Fish Forever in Central America, Diana Vasquez, grew up near the Pacific Ocean in a coastal community called “El Aceituno.” She remembers being surrounded by spectacular mangrove forests—her streets littered with shells and her life dictated by the sea. But over time, the fish started disappearing, and Diana felt compelled to dedicate her adult life to protecting the sea that buoyed her. "At the time, I didn’t understand what I do now as Fish Forever’s leader in Honduras: that the sea is everything—not only does it feed us, but it holds the spirit of the people, and we must do everything we can to protect it."
