Australian Jewish Association President David Adler has relayed a message from a Jewish man who was wrongly identified as the Bondi Junction stabbing offender.

Prior to police confirmation of the offender’s identity, thousands of people on social media were falsely claiming Benjamin Cohen was the knifeman who killed six people on Saturday.

“He (Ben Cohen) says I have heard you are coming onto Sky News and I’d love for you to bring up this false accusation,” Mr Adler said while reading a message from Mr Cohen on his phone.

“How it is used to propel anti-Semitism and destroy my name in the process.”

The police have identified Joel Cauchi as the 40-year-old knifeman who was shot dead by a female police officer.
