A conversation about electronic health records would not be complete without discussing the topic of population health management (PHM). Through a PHM strategy, in theory, organizations are able to bring together clinical, financial, and operational data to uncover opportunities—down to the individual patient level—to improve the cost efficiency and quality of care that they deliver. But for tools that have primarily served as digital record storage, are EHRs equipped to support this kind of enterprise business intelligence? This session convened health system executives to discuss the state of population health as well as their experiences with using EHRs to drive improvements in cost, quality, and operational efficiency. Part of the 2018 EHR National Symposium at Stanford.
