If you’ve not come across them yet then sooner or later you’re going to come across delayed speakers. These extra speakers placed further back in a venue are a mainstay in any medium or large space.

Though the interaction between multiple speakers can get fairly complicated, that’s no excuse to avoid learning the basics. In an ideal situation, you’ll have a dedicated system tech to deal with all that, but then the world is rarely ideal.

Even if you’re exclusively a front-of-house or monitor engineer, it's a good idea to know how to set up delay speakers.

In this video, we’ll look at what they are and where and why we use them. After calculating the delay times, we’ll follow up the theory with a tutorial on how to set it up on a mixer.
