This short excerpt from our longer video on Joan of Arc discusses the siege of Orleans by the English in 1429, and the success of liberating forces led by the Count Jean de Dunois, the half brother of the captive duke of Orleans, was largely attributed to the miraculous inspirational participation of Jean of Arc, "La Pucelle". It was her crucial involvement and intervention in the campaign that motivated French troops to storm a number of redoubts and forts that were previously thought to be impregnable. Strange coincidences and her confident assertions were at first dismissed by sceptical commanders, but by the end of the campaign there was no doubt in any of them that she was a messenger of God, come to save France, and expel the English.
