Built2Wander heads west to Johnson Valley, California for the 2021 King of the Hammers. King of the Hammers is an off-road race that combines desert racing and rock crawling, two of our favorite things! While Tens of thousands of spectators gather to spectate the race, we show you all of the other fun that is to be had on the dry lake bed of Johnson Valley.

We start our journey by driving the Triton JL to Southern California and picking up an RV to sleep in for the week. Once we make it to the lakebed we immediately air down our 40” Nitto Tire Trail Grapplers to make for a more comfortable ride during our week off the grid. From ripping the dunes to taking on technical rock crawling trails, there is no shortage of off-road adventure to be had. In addition to the miles of endless trails, it’s worth exploring Hammertown as well.

We explain how to have the best time at the King of the Hammers and dive into what you can expect to do and see in Hammertown. We take a stroll through vendor row where you can visit your favorite off-road vendor, grab food & drink, and even get up close and personal with all of the race cars as they go through their tech and safety inspections! Hammertown also hosts the main stage and mega screen where you can catch all of the live racing action as well.

Don’t miss our ride-along inside the new Ford Bronco with Ultra4 racer and National Drift Champion, Vaughn Gittin Jr. Together we take the 2021 Ford Bronco off-roading in the various terrain you will come across in Johnson Valley, including the whoops, sand dunes, and rocks! Vaughn shows us some really cool features of the new Bronco and just how capable it really is.
