Learn how to make brown sugar boba with our recipe to get either the dirty milk tea look or tiger stripes for tiger milk tea.

We love using dark brown sugar (specifically Muscovado - https://amzn.to/3wpzCsn) for a sweet caramel toffee taste, but you can also use light brown sugar.

Be patient when making the syrup, and don't try to turn the heat up too quickly. For our recipe, it's best to work with a thinner, runnier syrup that will lightly coat the glass rather than a thicker mixture. This is because a thicker mixture will make really vivid stains on the glass but won't melt properly into the boba drink later on.

Using crushed ice and gently adding in each component of this drink is key to getting the different variations and making the syrup stains last a bit longer. If the aesthetic boba look doesn't matter, you can prepare this beforehand.

For our recipe, we're using instant tapioca pearls (from Wu Fu Yuan - https://amzn.to/42NumKZ) to save some time. However, you can make these at home with our tapioca pearl recipe or try making crystal boba, which doesn't have any tapioca starch inside.
