Rye, widely cultivated in Spanish fields until very few years ago, provided farmers with two main raw materials: grain for making bread, and straw that was used in the manufacture of different everyday objects. One of the accessories in field tasks has been the cap to protect from the sun. In 1999, in the Salamanca town of Robleda, these caps acquired their own personality in the hands of María Calvo.
