This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs. The Santa Fe is bigger than the RAV4 offering 3 inches more front legroom and 4 inches more second row legroom. With all rows in the use, the RAV4 offers more cargo space but overall cargo capacity goes to the Santa Fe. The Toyota RAV4 has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. FWD and AWD available. The RAV4 also has a Hybrid option and a PHEV called the Prime. The Hyundai Santa Fe has a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine also with an 8 speed automatic transmission, 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque. Standard AWD in Canada but in the US FWD and AWD are available. There is also a 2.5L Turbo 4-cylinder with 277 horsepower and 311 lb-ft torque and a Hybrid option. Hyundai is also launching a PHEV soon, we can’t wait to review it when it becomes available. It will have 50 km of EV range, it’s not quite as good as the RAV4 Prime with 68 km of EV range. The RAV4 comes standard with heated front fabric seats, a 4.2” multi information display, a 7” touchscreen, Apple Carplay and Android Auto and a 6 speaker sound system. The XLE trim, which is our best value trim comes with a leather wrapped heated steering wheel and a power driver’s seat. The two top trims come with the bigger 8” touchscreen, a 7” information display, Softex seats and ventilated front seats. With a package on the XLE trim, you can get the bigger screen, Softtex seats and driver seat memory. The top Limited trim offers some extra features like an 11 speaker JBL sound system, heated rear seats, driver seat memory and a wireless charger. The Trail trim in Canada does not come with driver seat memory and a power passenger seat is not offered on any trim on the RAV4.The Santa Fe interior is elegant and sophisticated with a well laid out centre console with a button shifter. It comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a leather wrapped heated steering wheel, and heated cloth front seats. Our best value trim goes to the Preferred trim with the Trend Package in Canada for $2,100. It will cost you an extra $5100 compared to the base model but you get extra features like the panoramic sunroof, leather seating surfaces and power passenger seats. There is a new trim for 2022 called Urban in Canada with the 2.5L turbocharged engine, it’s nice to see the more powerful engine now available on another trim besides the top trim. Although, the top Calligraphy trim is where all the extra features are, a head-up display, 10.25’ touchscreen, a 12.1” digital driver display, wireless charger, Nappa leather seats, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, a 12 speaker Harman Kardon sound system, interior ambient lighting and a proximity activated power liftgate. There is no wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto on the larger screen like there is on the smaller 8” touchscreen.
