Wars and prejudice dominate the news. Can we discover a way to help people better understand each other and live with their differences? What if we all learnt to be more ‘emotionally intelligent’? Here, Alison discusses its nature, and considers the potential light and dark sides of being more emotionally intelligent. Alison Bacon was a mature student, completing her BSc in Psychology
in 2000 and her PhD in 2003. She is now an academic psychologist with research interests in individual differences, particularly personality and the impact this has on our daily lives. One of her main interests is in understanding how people use emotionally intelligent abilities in both
prosocial and antisocial ways. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
