The film about the war of Sergei Bondarchuk "They fought for their homeland," an adaptation of the novel of the same name by M. Sholokhov. The best film according to the survey of the magazine "Soviet Screen" in 1976.
The film tells about several days of fierce fighting, when a handful of brave men stood to death under continuous bombing and tank attacks. On the approaches to Stalingrad, bloodless, exhausted Soviet troops wage heavy defensive battles, incurring huge losses ... All of them are people of bright characters, different in profession, age, temperament and nationality. In the short breaks between fights, they talk about the war and its lessons, they recall a peaceful life. The tragic tension of the battle is replaced by scenes full of humor and crafty footsteps. But the main idea still remains the exploits of ordinary soldiers and the manifestation of love for their native land.
