The band Kansas played a free concert on July 2, 2016, as part of the Kansas Avenue Redevelopment Project celebration. It was originally to be played outdoors but was moved into the Topeka Expocentre due to weather.

Downtown Topeka, Inc. said there are many more announcements coming later as part of the celebration.
