The labour market is changing. From delivering food and driving ride shares to tagging images for AI, millions around the world find work task-by-task online. The gig economy is worth over $5 trillion USD globally, and growing. Yet the stories of the workers behind this tech revolution have gone largely neglected. Lured by the promise of flexible hours and being your own boss, workers have found a very different reality – dangerous working conditions, unreliable pay and the possibility of getting fired over a bad rating. Through an engaging global cast of characters THE GIG IS UP brings their stories into the light and reveals how the magic of technology we’re being sold might not be so magic at all.
