Luz María is 13 years old, she lives in the indigenous community of Loma Ancha in the conflicting Mexican state of Oaxaca. To get to school, where they receive a bilingual education in Spanish and Triqui (their mother tongue), Luz Maria, her sister Araceli and her cousin Yahir, daily undertake a 4.4 kilometers journey.

Maribel is 11 years old and her brother Juan Jesús is 8. They live in the desert in a farm called San Gregorio. They are surrounded by mythical cave paintings at Baja California’s Sierra de San Francisco. At home, among other activities she helps her parents milking the goats and making cheese.
