In the last few days Team WRT was at Imola Circuit to continue their testing with the BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh ahead of the 2024 season debut, during which the Italian track will host a round of the FIA WEC (World Endurance Championship). The BMW prototype has already completed an entire IMSA season this year with BMW Team RLL but from 2024 the car will be fielded in both major endurance championships.

I was at the first day, out of two, of testing characterized by wet track conditions which significantly improved in the afternoon.

The M Hybrid V8 has been developed under the "Le Mans Daytona h" (LMDh) regulations which allows it to be fielded alongside Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) entries in the Hypercar class of the FIA WEC or in the GTP class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. Compared to Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) rule set, in which there's much more freedom in designing the car, LMDh teams are forced to rely on one of the 4 chassis manufacturers chosen by ACO and IMSA (Dallara, Ligier, Multimatic and Oreca) in order to have a base from which to build their own vehicle. BMW has chosen Dallara as their chassis supplier.

The M Hybrid V8's engine is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, called P66/3, which is a development of the engine found in the 2017-2018 BMW M4 DTM, paired with the standardised hybrid unit.
