This recorded webinar briefing covers planning a 500 K cross country glider flight from Warner Springs, CA.
The constraints for the flight included a desire to stay within a geographical area that avoided a nearly 20 mile gap between mountain tops (where few thermals usually exist), no more than 3 turnpoints, bounded by the Mexican border on the south, and sea and desert conditions on West and East sides.
Tools used include SeeYou flight planning and task creation software and Skysight.io soaring weather forecast sight and several specific forecasts within that. The video includes a review of the Skew-T diagram and how to use that to forecast soaring weather.
The webinar was the bi-weekly Antelope Valley Soaring Club's "porch chat"
