Inspiration for In Color starts with Tory’s childhood on a farm outside of Philadelphia. Tory Burch was influenced by her parents, Buddy and Reva, who were always embracing people and were, in a way, collectors of friends and cultures as well as objects and art. Her parents would return from their travels with a collection of treasures and photographs that shaped how Tory sees the world. These days, traveling around the world and seeing the world and seeing color, the aesthetics and the cultures, she’s inspired to incorporate these into her life and her collections.

The book gives us a glimpse into Tory’s passion for art and travel – interviews with artist Damien Hirst, who provided the painting for the book cover, and artist Jeff Koons who plays a word association game with Tory for some interesting results; photographs of beautiful places around the world: India, Morocco, the Yves St. Laurent garden.

Tory also talks about how her company was started – the idea beautifully made, beautifully designed clothing that didn’t cost a fortune - and that the foundation was always a part of the business plan and is a part of the company culture. The Tory Burch company incorporates “Buddy Values” –named after her father – which is meant to provide an environment where women could work and have a family and not have to make a choice between the two.

Watch till the end when the two play a word association game with the eleven colors featured in the book!
