This is a video essay / retrospective on what I believe to be the best Pixar animation studios movie. Pixar has been releasing theatrical films since 1995 with the release of Toy Story, and the studio has gone on to make some of the best animated movies of all time, such as Finding Nemo (2003), Ratatouille (2007), and Coco (2017). While all incredible films, there is one that I consider to be Pixar's best, Monsters Inc (2001).

In this video essay, I discuss why I think Monsters Inc stands out from other top tier movies, the main reasoning being the strength in its messaging and a topic that is rarely touched upon in media, the fear soon-to-be parents can feel as they await the arrival of their child. Pixar looks at this tough subject through the lens of a girl and her big blue monster. If someone were to ask me what Monsters Inc was about, I would say these three words, fatherhood and friendship.
