Here I review the current 992 Porsche against the 991.2 GT3. Interesting since the new 992 GT3 has been launched and is soon to hit the streets. A major change in the suspension department for the 992 GT3 with it's new double wishbones, helping to keep more of the car's front tyres flat on the tarmac. Together with year on year advances in tyre technology this has helped transform the car's lap times on the Nurburgring especially significant since the engine is the same as that found on the 991 Speedster, itself all but identical to the one found in my GT3.

However I also understand that the 992 GT3 is more hardcore than previously seen even in Touring specification. There is always a consequence of chasing lap times. If so this is a shame because the appeal of past GT3s are their relative usability, brilliant on the track and perfectly usable on the road. Might have been best for Porsche to leave the forthcoming 992 GT3RS to chase lap times imo.

Unfortunately the list price has also escalated by around £18,000, a huge jump from the previous £112,000 although the car does have an advantage of having few real competitors. We shall see how good it really is when the inevitable road tests appear, and in the meantime we can enjoy the 991.2 GT3.
