George Floyd's death - America one year later - a report by WELT-USA correspondent Steffen Schwarzkopf.
Four years of Donald Trump have divided the American nation more deeply than seldom before. The situation culminated in 2020 - the corona pandemic, the assassination of George Floyd and the subsequent protests and riots across the country. The presidential election in November, whose defeated candidate still refuses to acknowledge his defeat. Finally, the violent attack on the Capitol on January 6th.

Steffen Schwarzkopf has visited George Floyd's hometown several times in the last twelve months and spoken to people in Minneapolis, but also in other places in America - with residents, relatives of victims, activists, social workers, politicians and police officers. He was particularly impressed by the encounter with a 16-year-old student who formulated his thoughts on the subject of racism in razor-sharp words: "The world is full of injustice. No matter where you are, you are judged by how you look. Our skin color should not matter because we're all the same inside. " The report turns into an oppressive appraisal of an insecure nation in search of a better way.
