Hope you like my latest Derby Time Traveller series video, in this one we are standing on Bold Lane, Derby looking across the road at what was once the Theatre Royal Derby.
The Theatre Royal was converted from a former malthouse that was built in 1773, the Theatre closed in 1864 and reopened as a Gospel Hall in 1865, with a floor added to the middle of the building.
In the 1950s Derbyshire County Council bought the building for their planning department.
Then it became Derby Magistrates Court until 2006, then in 2008 became a restaurant called GoJi, By 2012 it was another restaurant called Mango Tang, Then in November 2013 it opened as another restaurant called Iberico World Tapas until July 2018, then it was up for sale until November 2021 when it opened yet again as another restaurant this time Zorba The Greek which is how you see it today in my current view in this video.

As you can see this building has been repurposed many times in the last 251 years since it was altered into the Theatre Royal back in 1773 !

This building is Grade II listed.

In this video you will also see Greaves and Welch a car garage which was demolished a long time ago, this was a different garage to Brailsford Garage/Allsops garage which was further down Bold Lane towards Sadlergate end.
