At a time when realism wasn't expected in video game sports titles, Madden redefined those expectations. I played it first on the Genesis.

Episode Notes:

1. Captured on the Mega SG.

2. While Madden 94 was the first game in the series to have the NFL license, it did not have the licensed players. That wouldn't happen until the following year with Madden 95.

3. Madden 97 and 98 are incredibly similar. They share loads of graphical assets and the same music. Only the front end and a few Super Bowl options separate the two.

4. Surprisingly, Madden on the Genesis never exceeded 16 megs. I often wonder what it could have looked like had it gone to 32.

5. While the Madden series showed up on the SNES as well, I never felt it played as nice as the Genesis versions. The crowd and voices sounded better on the SNES, but I preferred the music in the Genesis games as well.

6. There are videos of the canceled 32-bit Madden 96 on the internet. It's easy to see why it was axed.

7. Of all the Madden's here, I still prefer the original.

8. While Madden NFL 94 still plays great, I actually disliked the new graphics and animation. It looked silly to me.

9. There were 2 Madden's on the Saturn. 97 and 98. Both were awesome.

10. One thing I always appreciated about the Madden games was the ability to simulate a game. Every single year I simulate the playoffs and Super Bowl to see who wins. That's be especially poignant this year.
