His name is mentioned 43 times in the Holy Quran. Surah Noah is the 71st surah in the Qur'an. Noah (a.s.) is one of the Ulü'l-azm (highest ranked) prophets who occupies an important place in the Holy Qur'an and hadiths. After the death of the righteous people who were followers of Prophet Idris (a.s.), some people made idols of these righteous people and then began to worship them. Prophet Noah (a.s.) was sent to the idol-worshipping people to convert them to the religion of Allah, but very few of his people believed in him. One of Noah's sons was among those who did not believe.

After 950 years of trying to guide his people, Noah (a.s.) finally revealed his helplessness to Allah Almighty and the "Noahic Flood" began, which led to Noah (a.s.) being called "the second ancestor of mankind". Before the Flood, Allah (swt) ordered Noah (a.s.) to build an ark. There are narrations that the ark was three-storied, completed in two or four years, and that it was powered by steam and fire. According to the narration, 80 people who believed in the ship boarded it. In addition, a pair of animals were taken on board. According to scholars, with the beginning of Noah's Flood, every part of the earth was covered with water. It is rumored that the flood lasted 6 months. With a divine command, the waters receded and the ship landed on Mount Cudi on the 10th of Muharram Ashura.
