Attorney General Merrick Garland announced during a press conference on August, 5, 2021 that federal officials would investigate allegations of excessive use of force by Phoenix officers, retaliation against protesters, discriminatory policing practices and the department's response to people who have disabilities or are experiencing homelessness.
