Office politics is the scourge of every modern workplace. In this video, I shared 4 tips for dealing with office politics. Dealing with office politics can become a lot easier if we can anticipate and understand its nature. If you are thinking how not to be a part of office politics then this video is for you. Office politics in India is not different from office politics anywhere else in the world. This dark side of corporate world is often obscured by the fact that many people don’t speak up about it to save their jobs.

Those who do speak up about this dark side of corporate career often do so too late. Office politics tips and tricks are not a be-all and done-all. Sometimes, you may need to observe what’s happening around you in the office and make a decision likewise. Work Politics has been a constant problem in corporate jobs. If you get involved in office politics, it only leads to becoming a part of a toxic work culture. This toxic work culture in India is pretty damning because of how it impacts all of us.

Every one of us will become a victim of corporate politics or office politics at some point in our lives. Sooner than later you will realize that office politics impacts the appraisal cycles. This is because office politics is all about seeking more and more power. If the manager likes somebody and there’s someone on the team that he doesn’t like, then he will promote the person he likes just so that in the long run that manager has more influence and power in the company.

This corporate politics is not just about discrimination and favoritism. It can also be that the manager just doesn’t like your work. The manager might say that their personal career is not impacted by the particular work an employee does. Because of this, the manager may stop caring about that employee’s work altogether. These are straightforward examples. Some time down the line the manager may tell an employee not to talk to people in a different team. Just in their quest to control the narrative. Another thing is that the manager’s working style is very direct and yours is not.

As an employee, there are a few things you can do. A fresher should try not to get involved in office politics at all. You should observe for the first few months what is happening around you. You should keep your opinions to yourself. The next tip is to have those skip-level meetings with your manager’s manager. Then you should also try to talk to resource management groups to see if there are other projects you can work on. Lastly, be ready to leave the company if you see no other option.
