The station wagon may be almost dead, but its functionality lives on in the crossover, a name commonly used for something that’s taller than a car but not quite in SUV territory. Toyota’s smallest entry in this segment is the Corolla Cross.

In its two lower trims — L and LE — the Corolla Cross starts in FWD but can be optioned to AWD, while the top-trim XLE is all-wheel only. There is also a hybrid version, offered in SE and XSE trims, and both are AWD. I’m in the LE AWD at $30,690, further accessorized with a Premium Package for $1,680 that adds 18-inch wheels, roof rails, a sunroof, and a wireless charger.
