Dr. Joshua McMullen, Regent College of Arts & Sciences

When I think of what a Christian worldview is, it reminds me of a C.S. Lewis quote which I’ll probably butcher but I’ll try to paraphrase as best I can. He says, “I believe Christianity like I believe in the sun. Not because I see it – although you do – but because of it, you see everything else.” It’s looking at the world with a new set of eyes.

The Greeks and the enlightenment thinkers really saw humans as rational animals – our highest function was that we could use our mind to think rationally. I think Saint Augustine had a better and more biblical answer which is, we’re not just rational but we’re worshiping and we’re created to worship. So I think when Paul says that we’re given an enlightened mind as Christians, I think that we have a mind that’s been reoriented back to God. That it’s thinking on the thing that it should have been thinking on all along.
