In the speech he gave on 29 October 1933, the tenth anniversary of the Republic of Turkey (The Tenth Year Speech), Kemal Atatürk emphasised that thenceforth Turkish national culture would be developed, positive sciences and fine arts would be studied and worked on and this would be achieved in a short period not with the lax Ottoman mentality, but with the new hardworking Turkish generation that has embraced science. His words "The Turkish nation is hardworking! The Turkish nation is intelligent!" have had an extraordinary impact on the nation's self-confidence and are a reminder that Atatürk has devoted his whole life to the Turkish nation.
