Walk around the most talked-about semi-truck of our times. Tesla Semi, a Class 8 heavy-duty truck, was outlined in Elon Musk’s Master Plan, Part Deux, in 2016 and unveiled in November 2017. As tractor-trailer trucks currently account for approximately 18 percent of vehicle emissions, Semi offers a chance for Tesla to further its climate-focused mission while capturing a new market.

With two battery pack configurations, Semi will be able to achieve 300 or 500 miles of range on a single charge. The vehicle is equipped with three independent electric motors on the rear axles and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 20 seconds, fully loaded, with a gross combined weight of 82,000 lbs.

Tesla’s Semi prototype achieved a drag coefficient of a mere 0.36, far less than the 0.65-0.70 of a traditional semi-truck. Since its introduction, Tesla has been refining Semi for the mass market. What are your thoughts on seeing more and more of these on the roads? Let us know in the comments!
