Patrick Mphaka is one broadcaster most Malawians find difficult to forget. While at MBC he introduced a radio program called Kodi Mwamva, which became more common with the popular name 5 MoBa. He says the name came from the reel that they used to record the segment on while it was a segment in Morning Basket, a popular morning magazine program on Malawi Broadcasting Corporation. The segment was recorded on a 5 inch reel hence was marked 5 MoBa, (standing for 5 inch Morning Basket). The segment was later moved out of Morning Basket to become a stand alone program.

5MoBa would make the listeners' blood curdle with the the chilling tales featured in the program. It was full of spooky tales of bizzare happenings across the world, weird stories about aliens and other strange stories.

5MoBa soon became a program people feared to listen to, but could not afford to miss.

Patrick was abruptly dismissed from MBC on what he calls political grounds, after he insisted on balancing programming in the run up to the 1999 elections and he wanted to feature ruling and opposition political parties equally.

Meanwhile, after leaving MBC he went on to gain skills in the media and communications sector working as a livelihoods consultant.
