The Troggs, prominent during the British Invasion, recorded raw primal or "caveman" music. Later, they were referred to as an early punk rock band. They had several hits, but the one that really brought home the primal passion was "I Can't Control Myself." In 1966 the song went to #2 in the U.K. and it stalled at #43 in the U.S. The U.S. release was on the Atco label and the B-side was "Gonna Make You." Songwriting credit goes to Reg Presley, lead singer. This sixties' video is one of the precursors to the genre of music videos that became common in the early '80s. The Troggs had several such videos that included sketches or scenes...not strictly footage from TV or concert appearances. The Troggs' most memorable hit is the 1966 classic "Wild Thing."
