Tesla as usual, does a really bad job sharing any information on its vehicles prior to deliveries, I can’t tell you why that is I just know that’s how they do it…. Even with the Model 3 it was the same way.
I have been searching and sifting through all the clues, in videos, posts and blogs to try and piece this together…. Then I came across this awesome article shared by George Szeto from Tesmanian, who received what appears to be some confidential information from one of their anonymous readers, who provided some very awesome details of the overall dimension of the exterior and interior of the Model Y.
So lets dive in and take a look at what the Model Y’s overall dimensions are…..so you can all rest easy tonight. Ok Lets dive into the Exterior 1st which I believe is more of the unknown at this point int time
(A) The Model Y will have an Overall Length 187” or 4,750mm
(B) The overall width including the mirrors will be 83.8 in or 2,129 mm
*(B) the Overall Width including folded mirrors: 77.9 in or 1,978 mm
*(B) The Overall Width excluding mirrors: 75.6 in or 1,921 mm
(C) The Model Y’s overall Height will be : 64 in or 1,624 mm I also stated this in a previous video so I was really close to being accurate
The Model Y’s wheels base will be
(D) : 113.8 in or 2,890 mm Overhang - Front
(E) : 34.4 in or 847 mm Overhang - Rear
(F) : 38.8 in or 986 mm
Ground Clearance
(G) 6.6 in or 168 mm If you have not seen my previous video comparing the Model 3 and the Model Y I stated that the height will be around 6.5” so pretty close there.
The Track for both front and rear is (H) : 64.4 in or 1,636 mm
So there you are that is the overall exterior dimensions of the Model Y that we have all been waiting for Tesla to release. I hope these measurements are appealing to you and that you are now feeling better about the Model Y. I will also say that the Model Y’s exterior is among the top in almost every category compared to other Compact SUV’s in its class. So some really good news and really solid specs here. Alright lets dive right into some additional information of the Interior specs of the Tesla Model Y.
Head Room Front : 41.0 in or 1,041 mm
Head Room Rear : 39.4 in or 1,001 mm
Leg Room Front : 41.8 in or 1,063 mm
Leg Room Rear ; 40.5 in or 1,029 mm
Shoulder Room Front : 56.4 in or 1,432 mm
Shoulder Room Rear : 54 in or 1,373 mm
and we know that the Tesla Model Y has 66 cubic feet of available storage….. Which is awesome! Alright next up we have the weight of the Model Y
Curb Weight* Long Range Battery, Dual Motor: 4,416 lbs or 2,003 kg According the post the curb weight is the vehicle in a normal state with no passengers
Gross Vehicle Weight Rating GVWR** Long Range Battery, Dual Motor: 5,302 lbs or 2,405 kg
Gross Vehicle Weight Distribution - Dual Motor: Front 46% and Rear 54%
Gross Axle Weight Rating - Front 20" Wheels: 3,005 lbs or 1,363 kg
Gross Axle Weight Rating - Rear 20" Wheels: 3,307 lbs or 1500 kg now this is important for those who want to be able to tow….

*Curb Weight = weight of the vehicle with correct fluid levels, no occupants and no cargo
**GVWR = Gross Vehicle Weight Rating

MAN….. That is a heavy SUV compared to the others in its class…. So it should be nice and stable hugging the ground with all that weight from the battery.
Alright, so Remember when Elon said that you can go off-roading with the Model Y, well he wasn’t kidding the Model Y will come equipped with an Off-Road assistant feature that adjusts the traction control to optimize performance off-road. (It didn’t say off-roading, it said off-road) However, when active the automatic emergency braking and lane departure avoidance systems will not be available….. I mean that makes total sense, as you don’t want those features active when driving off-road….This feature will also maximize range by extending regenerative braking to lower speeds and automatically blend in brakes to hold the vehicle at at stop….
And the final confirmation on the Tesla Model Y is that it will have a power light gate (which I think we all assumed it would) and you will be able to set your desired height of the hatch as well…. Some pretty cool information that I think we have all been waiting for, for some time now. So comment down below all you soon to be Model Y owners. Do these specs solidify the vehicle for you? Are you happy with the Model Y overall dimensions? Is there something you wish was different?
