Will Lowes and Ace Hardware allow me to swap $200 in damaged tools?
We can pretty much thank SEARS for setting the Gold Standard in hand tool return warranty.

Probably the best "Ship replacement to your Door" warrantied tools these days: Tekton: https://amzn.to/3n0KS4J

BE WARNED: HARBOR FREIGHT
-Pittsburgh Pro/Beaman/Doyle/Quinn etc: No receipt(sometimes). Exchange at Harbor Freight
HARBOR freight is notorious for not allowing warranties on some items without the original packaging stating Lifetime Warranty or Lifetime Warranty paper that came with the tool when new. These items are things like: torque wrenches, torque adapters, digital/mechanical calipers, hammers, number punches, and other Pittsburgh Pro items that originally came with Lifetime warranties. There seams to no issues with basic hand tools: wrenches, sockets, ratchets, pliers, or screwdrivers though sometimes they won't allow 1 socket to be swapped without the entire kit being handed over. HOWEVER, they are slowly killing Pittsburgh Pro Brand and replacing them with Quinn. For now they will likely swap Pittsburgh for Quinn but in 10 years from now, with their track record, if you don't have the original receipt/box they will likely decline you. They have faced lawsuits and lost for their deceptive practices. They also currently filter honest tool reviews to reflect a positive outcome as well. They do not hide that they do this and opening state they pick and choose which reviews to show. There are countless forums of people claiming their negative tool review was never posted. Do your own research before investing in their tools.

DIFFICULT: need to track down a truck to swap and or very picky.
-SNAP-ON: commenters say you can set up an online account and email them for a new tool now
-Matco: I would like your input other than in person truck swap
-Mac: I would like your input other than in person truck swap
-Cornwell: I would like your input other than in person truck swap
-SK tools: Email with pics and description. They are picky about "normal wear and abuse".
-Makita hand tools: local service center

European Brands:
-Wera: Contact the place you purchased from and or you will need to ship the tool back at your expense. Normal Wear and Abuse voids the warranty.
-Knipex: DITO

EXTINCT BRANDS
-Bench top : Kmart should allow swap for Craftsman but this varies widely by store. Calling Craftsman may get you a replacement.
-New Britain: No receipt. House brand for NAPA auto in 70's. Easy swap for current brand in store
-Plomb/Challenger: current owner is Proto: Call customer service and a new one will ship
-Crew Line/ Powerbuilt/ GM performance: Orielly Auto Parts will direct swap for current brand or call ALLTRADE TOOLS
-JH WILLIAMS: Snap-on owns but you need to track down a truck and maybe he'll swap you.
-Herbrand: ?
-Thorenson: Bought out and not sure who currently owns them.
And many many more I can't think of off the top of my head.

Craftsman tools: Lowes policy is technically to replace only item number for exact item number. So though I found friendly customer service reps you may not. ACE hardwares are all individually owned franchises so your mileage will vary widely on what they will allow to be returned. The few remaining Sears will still swap if they have them. You can always call Craftsman directly and they will likely mail you a replacement.
