This is why we think Joaquin Phoenix isn't the real Joker! Subscribe to Screen Rant: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-Screenrant

Later this year we're all in for a real treat, as the amazingly talented Joaquin Phoenix takes on the lead role in the upcoming Joker movie.

He'll be playing Arthur Fleck - a failed stand-up comedian in the 1980s, who turns to a life of crime and chaos, having been repressed, rejected and bullied by his peers.

And while all the evidence seems to suggest Phoenix's character is the titular Joker, could that actually NOT be the case?

Well, that's one theory that's doing the rounds and, in this video, we're going to be looking into it.

The theory is mainly based on the fact that Joaquin Phoenix is fourty-four years of age, while the actor playing Bruce Wayne in this movie - Dante Pereira-Olson - is only nine.

That thirty-five year age gap is very unlike anything seen in Batman lore before. It really doesn't make sense that the Joker would be in his sixties by the time Batman came to exist - there'd be no time to establish any kind of meaningful rivalry.

With that in mind, the theory suggests Phoenix's character will actually be the individual who serves as the inspiration for the real Joker - and the iconic version of the character will emerge at the end, having been influenced by Phoenix's character's actions throughout the course of the movie.
