In this video we continue with day 4-7 of our Van Build! In this episode we focus on installing floors and walls in the camper.

Let's Talk Flooring!

So there's two major things to note when converting a cargo van into a camper. 1. The floor of the van will almost always have some rust if you're buying it used, and 2. The cargo portion of the van will be REALLY loud while you drive. So to make your home on wheels more home like, there's some different layers you'll want to add to the floor.

1️⃣ Once you strip the existing rust off, you'll want to spray Rustoleum or some sort of rust proof paint. This will seal the floor to stop any additional rust from forming. You need to strip the rust first though because if you spray paint directly on top of the rust chips, it will just cause your fresh paint to chip as well.

2️⃣ Next you'll want to tackle the noise. You'll see in our second picture we've got some shiny aluminum foil looking thing. This is sound deadener! It basically soundproofs the floor of the by stopping vibrations. We chose @noicousa sound deadener because they have a peel and stick option! We made sure to cover most of the floor and both of the wheel wells, and boy did that ever make a difference!

3️⃣ The next layer is our sub floor! This step is to give us a completely flat surface to lay down our final flooring! We used 1/4" plywood and cut it out in the shape of the floor! Our subfloor is made up for 3 separate pieces making it easy to install!

Next we got our walls in. Since we are trying to keep this build low cost, we went for a plastic material that we got for free. It's definitely not the fanciest material to use on a wall, but considering much of the wall will eventually be covered by cabinets and a bed, we figured it would do the trick just fine!
