After eating from the forbidden tree our father Adam ('alayhi'l-salām) humbled himself in front his Lord and supplicated for forgiveness and Allāh (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) the most Merciful forgave Adam ('alayhi'l-salām).

Iblīs (Satan) also supplicated to Allāh (subḥānahu wa ta'āla) after disobeying His command and Iblīs also got what he asked for but there is a world of a difference between what Adam ('alayhi'l-salām) asked and how he asked his Lord compared to what Iblīs asked for and how he asked Allāh (subḥānahu wa ta'āla).
