A New Way To Start The New Year | Alms Offering with Monks
Alms offering to Buddhist monks is a long standing tradition. Each day, lay supporters offer food to the monks as part of a practice that has been passed down through the generations. Buddhists have been taught the importance of giving frequently in order to lessen the amount of greed in the mind. In this video, we get to see how this Buddhist tradition is being shared with Westerners, many of whom are offering food to the monks for the first time. This special experience allows them to touch the magical feeling of starting off the year with an act of pure generosity. Happy new year everyone.
