Happy Leap Year 2020!!

So, what is a leap year? Based on our calendar an ordinary year has 365 days, while a leap year has 366 days. Leap day is added because it takes the Earth 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds to go completely around the sun.

If a leap year was not added to the calendar, the seasons would start one day earlier every four years. That means that after 360 years, spring would begin on December 21st instead of March 21st.

Now, if you're wondering “How do I figure out if it's a leap year?”

Ask yourself these questions. Is this year divisible by 4? If the answer is yes, THEN ask, is this year also divisible by 100? If so, it is not a leap year, UNLESS it is also divisible by 400.

That's why the year 2000 was a leap year but the year 2100 will not be a leap year, even though 2100 is divisible by 4 it is not divisible by 400. Meaning that there will be an 8-year gap between leap years 2096 and 2104.
