US surgeons have successfully implanted a heart from a genetically modified pig in a 57-year-old man, a medical first that could one day help solve the chronic shortage of organ donations. "It is a game changer because, you know, now we will have these organs readily available, if this works," says Muhammad Mohiuddin, who co-founded the University of Maryland Medical School's cardiac xenotransplantation program, which performed the procedure on Friday.
