I'm using a 25 ton Countyline log splitter, but how many tons do I actually need and use?

I have a fancy pressure gage that records pressure readings every 50 micro sec.
In the video, I split pine and some hardwood about 18" in diameter.

Results: 14 tons

The most tons I needed was 14, averaging 4-6 tons.

The best-selling and most popular splitter used to be the Speeco Huskee 22 ton. Has wood become harder, bigger, and more difficult to split? No!

If you are in the market for a new log splitter and don't know what size you should get, consider what kind and size of wood you have. If 75% of your wood is under 2 feet in diameter, my guess is under 25 tons is plenty.

Unless you have all the time in the world, you should focus on speed. Stroke reducers, log catchers, faster cycle times, etc.
