From King of the House Media: In 1972 I worked with Jay Hamilton in Bellingham, WA at radio station KBFW. Jay and I have kept in touch. When we came across an old recording of Jay on-the-air in 1964, the early days of Top-40 radio, we decided to put it online for historical purposes. Full details below.

Long time Pacific Northwest deejay, Jay Hamilton (Himmelsbach), was hired for his very first full-time radio gig in 1963 by Gary Bruno (Taylor), at the time program director of Top-40 Radio KSEM in Moses Lake, WA. Fifty eight years later Bruno/Taylor (who continued on to great success and prominence in broadcasting and related fields) discovered he had an old on-air radio air-check of Hamilton from the summer of 1964. After listening to the tape, Hamilton commented that he got a kick out of hearing his younger self attempting to discover the style of on-air deejay he was hoping to be. It appeared to him that at that moment he was leaning slightly toward the "mid-1960s more frantically outrageous deejay style" and was happy he eventually chose a more natural approach.

Hamilton's broadcast career included positions with KMPS AM/FM Seattle, KPOK Portland, OR, KBFW and KPUG Bellingham, WA, KASH Eugene, OR and K98 (KHFI-FM) Austin, Texas. He also became the voice of a number of Mattel talking toys, including the Ken Doll and Major Matt Mason. Plus he attained some minor success as a songwriter ("I'm Walking Babe", 1965 GarageBand classic by The Unusuals) and as an indie record producer (late-60s LA Rock Band, Genesis. re: "The Long Road").
