George Thomas hybridized roses, caught marlin as part of the Tuna Club, and was a pilot during WWI. Maybe most impressively though, he (and his partner, Billy Bell) were responsible for the three greatest golf courses in Los Angeles: Bel-Air, Riviera, and Los Angeles Country Club (North), host of the 2023 U.S. Open.
