Socrates’s primary style of debate focuses on the fact that morality cannot be based on arbitrary whim or divine command alone, as this would not provide a clear understanding of what is right and wrong. Rather, there must be an independent standard or reason that constitutes morality, and this is what we should aim to discover through moral philosophy.

This idea is still relevant today, as it continues to be a central theme in discussions about the nature of ethics and morality. The Socratic method of questioning and seeking definitions and explanations is still used today as a means of uncovering the underlying principles of a concept or idea, and the Euthyphro argument remains a classic example of this method in action.
